William Pleasant Jr.
William Merriette Pleasant Jr. (June 23, 1928 in Savannah, Georgia 〔(William Pleasant, artist who chronicled Black heritage ), at the African American Registry; published no later than June 27, 2013; retrieved August 22, 2014〕 – 1997)〔(William Pleasant, Jr. - Local Black History Profile ), by Kim Gusby, at WSAV-TV; published February 23, 2009; retrieved August 22, 2014〕 was an American artist and civil-rights activist.
Pleasant documented many of the early influential people and landmarks relating to the local African-American identity. Pleasant often collaborated with noted civil-rights activist W. W. Law, often engaging in friendly debates. Their shared concern regarding the status of Savannah's cultural and historical legacy lead to Pleasant's 1971 development of the first coloring book of African-American History. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army and became an early member of the Savannah NAACP. As a child he was featured on national radio on the Major Bowles Amateur Hour, and thereafter went on tour as a child entertainer. Until his death he continued to work in television as a voice-over specialist.
